Social and Wellness Events

The Academy has always been committed to looking after the wellness of the Academy Fellows and specialist trainees of Academy Colleges. Over the years, the Task Force on Well-being and Social Subcommittee set up under the Academy’s House Committee has organised different kinds of social and wellness activities that welcome the participation of all Fellows and specialist trainees.

Stretching Course
11 & 18 November 2025
The Academy held a two-session Pilates-inspired stretching course in November 2025 to enhance flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and increase energy for Fellows and specialist trainees
Mindfulness Induction Group led by Consultant Psychiatrist

The Mindfulness Induction Group successfully equipped participants with valuable tools to enhance mental wellness and cultivate mindfulness, contributing meaningfully to ongoing well-being initiatives.

Hong Kong Academy of Medicine

The Social Subcommittee and Task Force on Well-being conducted a survey among senior Fellows to understand their preferred social and well-being activities. 54 responses have been received, and the result was published in the Academyfocus October 2024 issue (P.8-9).

The Academy and is Young Fellows Chapter conducted a territory-wide cross-sectional study titled ‘Burnout and well-being in young doctors in Hong Kong: a territory-wide cross-sectional survey’ in the first half of 2019, and revealed that over 70% of local young doctors who responded reported personal or work-related burnout, with a high prevalence of depression (21%). Details of the survey results have been published in the Hong Kong Medical Journal (https://doi.org/10.12809/hkmj219610).

The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Academy), assuming a leading role in the medical and dental profession, has promulgated a Well-being Charter committed to cultivating and promoting well-being of Academy Fellows and specialist trainees of Academy Colleges. We pledge to acknowledge the importance of well-being, to take action, and to advocate policy changes for the improvement of our Fellows’ and trainees’ wellness.
